Medicine Cat Den

The calico tom rose his head from his slumber as he heard his mentor call for him. He had been sleeping since the cats left for the Gathering and had not yet heard the news of his fallen mother. He heard Spottedface's demand for herbs and took the hint that something was out of place.

He reached forward and grabbed all the neccessary herbs for an injured or sick cat. Kestrelkit wasn't expecting anyone to be dead, especially his mother. The good thing was that she still had one life left.

-Clearing.

The she-cat stepped into the Medicine Den, looked around the area. It was a rock cavern with many fronds and ferns around the entrance adn sides. One pathway led to her den, another to Kestrelpaw's den, another to where the ill could sleep, and another to the Storage. In the main clearing though, it was just an emtpy space.

She sat down and called out to her apprentice, "Kestrelpaw. Go into the storage and bring me back the herbs you would give a cat with a broken bone." And thus, the training would begin.

Kestrelpaw entered the den and absorbed what his mentor said. He thought for a moment, almost stunned at her request, then realized she was just testing him. He nodded then padded into the Storage tunnel, and looked around. He was now engulfed in blackness, but shafts of sunlight were filtering into the smaller cavern so he could see. He smelt around and grabbed comfrey, and some thyme and poppy seeds. Kestrelpaw walked back to Spottedface and set them down before her.

Spottedface waited patiently. She looked back and remembered her old mentor, Skyfall. The she-cat had done these sam sorts of drills with her, and she said that her mentor, the legendary Shyfawn, had done them as well. The bengal she-cat looked at her apprentice when he returned and nodded, "Well done." She looked at the herbs. "How would you use them in the situation?"

Kestrelpaw smiled at her praise, then bit his tongue at her next question. He'd never dealt with a broken bone, but Spottedface had mentioned things a few times. If he knew the bengal she-cat well enough, if he answered wrong, the reward would be a lesson and a paw against the head. "Err." He meowed, then it hit him. "I would first give the cat poppy seeds, to ease the pain, then apply a comfrey bound to the injury.. Oh, and thyme afterwards, to ease their anxiety."

"Good job." She meowed, then thought. That was enough for today. Maybe he could go watch his fellow apprentices and learn something about hunting. "You're released, but get out of camp and do something. Explore or collect herbs, whatever you wish." She flicked her tail in dismisal.
